Includes war time correspondence (1943-1945), clippings, ephemera, memoir written by Fred Hill Winter (father), military papers (1942-1990), personal papers, personal effects, dedication material Uncle Budʹs Hut and several manuscripts and booklets. Photographs include his early years before the war, photos of Camp Hale, biographical photos of Winter, family trips to Uncle Budʹs Hut, and a photo of a skier model that was a Christmas gift sent to Winter from his brother.

Burdell "Bud" Winter (1925-1945) was a native of Schenectady, N.Y. He volunteered for the U.S. Armyʹs ski troops in 1943. At Camp Hale, Colo. Winter was assigned to the 10th Mountain Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop and played an important role in the 10th Reconʹs historic trek from Leadville to Aspen. In 1944, he received a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant and joined Company M, 85th Infantry Regiment.
